The Holidays are just around the corner which means its time to prep and prepare for this busy season approaching. While most of us avoid the fun task of being the host, you decided to take it on this year. Between balancing what meals to cook and what gifts to buy for your loved ones, the Holidays came so quickly. Now, I know what you’re thinking “I don’t have the time!”, well that’s where you’re mistaken. We’ve come up with a list of tips and tricks to help you, the host, get through the Holidays stress-free.

Get the Essentials

When we think Holidays, we think cute twinkle lights, warm hot chocolate, Santa Claus and decorated trees. When you’re hosting, you have to make sure your place looks the part. Set the ambiance with festive candles the day of to get everyone in Holiday spirit immediately as they enter your home. Décor plays a key role in setting the mood as well. Decorations can be as simple as a decorated tree and stockings hanging over the fireplace or as over the top as to make your entire house look like the inside of a snow globe… but who really has the time for that. A decorated tablecloth and festive plates will make the dinner setting look fun and festive, and its so easy to do!

Two words: Gift Basket

It’s always hard trying to find the perfect gift, especially when trying to shop for someone who has everything already. This is where gift baskets come in handy. Gift baskets are the perfect present to get anyone who is difficult to shop for because just like phone apps, there is a gift basket for everything.

Lists are key

Make a list and check it twice! Decide what you’re planning to make and create your grocery list before going into the grocery store. Next, create a food preparation list. Include the meals you’re making and the amount of time needed to prep and cook them. This can help you determine what to do in the meantime while your food is being cooked.

Quality not Quantity

It’s easy to get carried away with the menu, but no need to stress! Always remember that quality trumps quantity and your guests will enjoy anything tasty no matter what it is. Choose the easiest recipes or your favourite dishes that are easy for you to make and prepare…just don’t forget the wine!
Pro Tip: set the table the night before to save preparation time the day of.

Eat, drink and be Merry!

The best part about the Holidays is the company. After all of your hard work, simply enjoy it.
