- Set up a meeting. Exchanging vows is one of THE most important parts of your wedding. So, make sure that you and your fiance have a chance to sit down with the potential officiant and see if you like the way they speak. if they take the time to understand how you want your vows delivered and if they are willing to work with you to make your ceremony one that is meaningful for both parties.
- Understand the rules. Take a few minutes to call the city or google to make sure that you know all the specifications needed from your officiant to perform a legal ceremony. Making sure your officiant is recognized at this time is also a good idea.
- Read reviews. Pay close attention to the reviews when picking an officiant that is listed on wedding sites. Don’t just look at the number of reviews rather, read up on what each bride and groom had to say about the officiant because they may be a new listing and quality is always better than quantity.
- Check their work. Just like requesting a portfolio in a job interview, ask for sample scripts or videos from past ceremonies. Professional officiants will have a multitude of different pieces of work prepared to show you their style and see if it’s a good fit.
- Word of mouth. The best way to find a reputable resource is to ask people you know or who are in the business. Try talking to your photographer or vendors as they frequent many weddings. Additionally, they may have the network to connect you with people who are good in your area.
